Jess Gillam’s Call Out to Musicians For Virtual Christmas Project

Brit Award winning Saxophonist Jess Gillam is on the look-out for musicians to join her on exciting new Christmas project – Jess Gillam Virtual Scratch Orchestra.

Following the success of the first two projects, this third one sees Jess recording Christmas favourite – Sleigh Ride, made famous by the likes of The Ronnettes, Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald and is inviting singers and instrumentalists of any standard from around the world to once again join her in mass virtual music-making.

Musicians young and old are to don their festive outfits and film themselves performing one of two pieces available on her website. There are parts for complete beginners, those who don’t read music and also advanced musicians too – her aim, to bring together people of all musical abilities to collaborate and share some Christmas joy.

Entries will be pieced together creating a final video with Jess performing the solo.

Deadline for submissions is 7pm on Wednesday 18th November, the video to be premiered on Jess’s YouTube channel on Friday 11th December at 6pm.

“I am so excited to launch this Christmas Virtual Scratch Orchestra Project!” exclaims Gillam “At a time where, unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult to physically make music together, I hope that this will provide a fun and exciting way to bring people together with the power of music. As Christmas concerts, school plays and gatherings are cancelled and we face what may be a difficult winter, I hope that this will bring smiles and joy to those taking part and to those who watch. Right now, we need hope and light and music making can bring that in abundance!”

Here’s how to take part:

  • Visit the Jess Gillam website and select the part that suits you.
  • Download the music sheet PDF and click on the track
  • Wearing headphones, video yourself playing the piece
  • Upload your video to the Virtual Scratch Orchestra by 7pm on 18th November 2020
  • Sign up to Jess’ mailing list to make sure you see the final results
