Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 hit, Murder on the Dancefloor, is back in the UK Top 40 due to the Saltburn effect.

The Amazon Prime, smash-hit, film Saltburn, starring Jacob Elordi (Kissing Booth), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) – features a memorable scene at the end with Barry Keoghan and Sophie’s track. The scene set social media ablaze with comments, re-ignited fan interest in the song and a new audience of people began downloading/streaming the track – all of which saw Murder on the Dancefloor surge back into the Top 10 settling at no.2 this week, could it climb to no.1 next week?

The hit song was also no.2 back in 2001 where it was starved of glory by Daniel Beddingfield’s, “Gotta Get Through This”, 23 years later and Noah Kahan currently sits a position ahead of Sophie. Such is the popularity of the track, that it has now entered the Billboard 100 for the first time!

Speaking of the news, Sophie, who now hosts ‘Kitchen Disco’ on Radio 2′ said “I’m always very connected to my music, and one thing I’ve always loved about my work is its ability to surprise me. Murder on the Dancefloor is a song I’ve been singing for 20 years, and I’m on really good terms with it. I love singing it, I love performing it and what’s happening at the moment is kind of magical, actually…Thank you (to all the fans new and old streaming the song) for such a magical adventure.”
