Premier Night at L’Oliveto

Sophistication and charm was the promise, signed, sealed and delivered by Musicvein Entertainment when Melissa James and Something For The Weekend played at L’Oliveto in Rutland.

The crowd of around 70 diners enjoyed an evening of belissimo Italian food, fine wine and of course live music.

First to impress were a duo from Leicester’s  Jazz ensemble Something For the Weekend, singer Dee Weaver opening up with Amy Winehouse’s ‘Stronger Than Me’. The half-hour set was full of well known and well loved numbers expertly played by guitarist Josh Derrick – warming up the crowd nicely for main act Melissa James.

In true Melissa James style, she made no announcement as she floated into the main stage area but merely held one note which hushed the crowd immediately. As she began belting out songs from her album Day Dawns, the petite songbird’s vocal range had the crowd transfixed but enjoying themselves especially when she sang ‘Little Caged Bird’ and the finger snapping ‘Sing’.

Throughout her 90 minute set, it was clear the diners didn’t want the night to end – “Can we have her back next week?”, “Where has that talent been hiding”, “Please bring more artists of that calibre” were the general comments after the show.

Well Musicvein has great news for you – there will be more class acts to follow in the coming months and October promises to be just has amazing when Birmingham group Tipitina head to L’Oliveto to play their flavor of Blues.
