Running for over a decade, ILuvLive has had a great deal of acts grace their stages whom have gone on to become some of UK’s most lovable household names, Ed Sheeran, Tinchy Stryder, Maverick Sabre – the list goes on.
I remember my first ILuvLive show attended in London a few years back where I met Juliette Ashby and BBC Voice finalist Vince Kidd performing! So I was truly excited for the show to be coming to Leicester’s Music Cafe.
Host Carol Leeming (a singer herself) riled up the midweek-crowd ready for the evening which kicked off with local rap group BLGenius. The trio, Kama, Skitz and Twisted Penny quickly had the crowd hooked and nodding along to their smooth hip-hop beats and real rhymes, three tracks performed just didn’t seem enough!
Next up came Derby’s answer to Marvin Gaye, Jamie Joseph with his soulful 60’s vibe. I loved this guys’s heart and passion, in truth the mics of the backing band could have been put down a notch so that Jamie wouldn’t strain so much to be heard, but all in all that didn’t ruin his performance too much. Rocking the crowd with ‘Revolution’ Jamie Joseph is someone everyone must see live.
Other acts on the night included rapper KY, I dare anyone to tell me they didn’t leave with the lyrics “It’s my life my life” on loop in their heads! The beautiful Taya from Liverpool had a majority of the men in the club transfixed – I absolutely loved her songs ‘Deeper’ and ‘Fall Through’ taken from her forthcoming EP, stay tuned for more news on that.
But the man of the night had to be grime artist Eyez whose stage presence, rhymes and sheer energy had the crowd whooping and hollaring along! A bit like Kano and Wiley, Eyez performance of ‘Told You So’ and ‘What’s The Reason’ took hold of everybody while ‘Mardy’ just had the crowd in stitches!
All in all this was a brilliant night but I really couldn’t end this piece without giving a massive shout out to Vijay Mistry (Music Cafe owner) for bringing this to Leicester and the DJ of the night who gave me great pleasure with all the Wu and Method Man tracks played.
Readers, you really have to get yourself down to the Music Cafe, Leicester on Wednesday 14th October for ILuvLive – entry £3 in advance, £5 on the door.
