Over the past few months I’ve come to really love the work of SBTV. It’s innovative, exciting, informative and well executed.
Today’s video features some top UK artists including Maverick Sabre, Eyez, Nego True, Nolay and Harry Love performing ‘Shakespeare Bars’ – a cypher based on Shakespeares Twelfth Night.
Spitting bars inspired by the bard’s play, they entwined their own lyrics around key lines and phrases from Shakespeares original play.
The video shot on location at The Globe Theatre, aims to highlight the British Council’s ShakesLives campaign, which celebrates Shakespeare’s work and marks 400 years since his death.
“At SBTV, collaboration is so important; bringing artists together from different walks of life and challenging what is considered the norm.” says SBTV founder and CEO Jamal Edwards MBE “Shakespeare’s plays still to this day have such a cultural impact, in the language we use and in the films and entertainment we enjoy. That being said, it’s often harder for new generations to connect with all of the language…we’ve brought together some of our favourite modern day poets to put a fresh spin on one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays, Twelfth Night. Enjoy!”
