Rising star Anne-Marie, had a sold-out crowd at Nottingham‘s Bodega Club in a clinch hold last Friday night.
Ok, so not literally but the crowd of around 250 revellers were certainly in high spirits and clung onto her every word. It was clear that she had built up a strong army of fans since featuring on tracks with top chart acts like Rudimental, Gorgan City and Wretch 32. Those who didn’t know her that night, I’m sure, were hypnotized by her huge pom-pom earrings!
Bounding onto the stage the knifehand strike came in first track ‘Karate’. A drum heavy track about desires, taken from her debut EP of the same name.
Dan-zuki-ing the crowd with song after song, the 3 times ex-world champion Karate fighter turned singer Anne-Marie, had everyone swaying and singing along to slow jams ‘Gemini’ and ‘Stole’.
‘Breathing Fire’ a song written 18 months ago and which will feature as the lead song on her new album went down a storm at Bodega as did ‘Boy’ one of my favorite tracks of hers.
Showing her appreciation for fans turning up to the show, a joking Anne-Marie decided to ‘lob-out’ (in her words) Celebration chocolates to the audience, while telling them she had wanted to get Ferrero Rocher but the shop sold out. Had there been any Rocher’s dashed into the crowd – hands up, I wouldn’t have been accountable for my actions I can tell you that now!
Rounding off the night with ‘Do It Right’ first song being released from her up-coming album, the 60 minute show just didn’t seem long enough! I and just about everyone else in the club was buzzing and well, really didn’t want to leave, we were glad when she stuck around to meet and great everyone who attended.
