Review: Plastic Barricades – Around The Sun

AroundtheSun_artworkCurrently on my playlist in the office is ‘Around The Sun’ by Plastic Barricades, an alt-indie band from London.

Reminiscent of 80’s band The Housemartins, I love the message they give of giving your all in life and not being afraid to take risks “Don’t you be afraid to live your life today” sings lead singer Dan Kert.

With a video paying homage to movies ‘Groundhog Day’ and ‘Sliding Doors’ it’s just perfect for the fourth single of their upcoming album ‘Mechanics of Life’.

2016 is shaping up to be an exciting one for the newly formed quartet – who until recently were a trio – with extensive UK/EU touring plans.

In 2013 the North-West London band, Dan Kert (vocals, guitar, keys), Jonas Svendsen (lead guitar), Daniele Borgato (bass) and Frazer Webster (drums), were nominated for ‘Oxjam Band of the Year’ and ‘MTV Brand New 2014’. In February 2014 Plastic Barricades were voted No.1 in the Hard Rock Cafe London ‘Global Battle of the Bands’ competition – going on to play a sell-out gig at the iconic venue. In May also 2014 the band won the Camden Rocks Band competition and secured a spot at the hugely popular London festival that very month.

Look out for their previous singles ‘Needles in Haystacks’, ‘Masterminds’ and ‘Shine’ as well as EP ‘Tree of Ideas’ all available for streaming at the Plasticbarricades webpage or at Soundcloud.
