Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi performed an brilliant new composition called ‘Elegy for the Arctic’ while floating on a platform in the middle of the Arctic Ocean.

Adding his voice to the eight million people across the globe petitioning for the protection of the Arctic, Ludovico’s beautiful and inspiring piece was backed by Greenpeace.

Travelling aboard the Greenpeace ship, Arctic Sunrise, to the Wahlenbergbreen glacier – Svalbard, Norway, Ludovico gave a stunning performance against a backdrop of white beauty with gulls calling, waves lapping against the platform and the occasional crashing of melting ice adding to the effect.

Speaking about his creation Ludovico Einaudi says: “Being there has been a great experience. I could see the purity and fragility of this area with my own eyes and interpret a song I wrote to be played in the best stage in the world. It is important that we understand the importance of the Arctic, stop the process of destruction and protect it.”
