Musicvein Christmas Countdown: 4 Days to Go!

In 1994 Walthamstow bad boys East 17 released ‘Stay Another Day’ a song from their 2nd album ‘Steam’. The song reached the UK Number 1 spot for Christmas and remained there for 5 weeks.

Although it wasn’t a song has no Christmas reference – it was actually about the main songwriter’s brother who took his own life – the song did appeal to the Christmas market and stayed at the number one spot.

East 17‘s original line-up consisted of Tony Mortimer (singer/songwriter), Brian Harvey (singer), John Hendy and Terry Coldwell (backing singers/dancers). They split in 1999 after their 4th album ‘Resurrection’. In 2011 John & Terry reunited with new singer Robbie Craig – who you may remember from the hit ‘Woman Trouble’ with Artful Dodger.

Regardless of the line-up the original ‘Stay Another Day’ track has re-appeared back in the Top 100 every December since 2008, making it East 17‘s most successful hit to date.

I love this song and it definitely has to feature in the Musicvein Christmas Countdown!
