Out 29th May is the long awaited debut album by Christian Lee Hutson ‘Beginners’ – produced by Indie artist Phoebe Bridgers.
Latest single release ‘Talk’ focuses on a person soon to become a parent and reflecting on their own absent parent issues. Which follows Hutson’s two other releases from the pending album, ‘Lose This Number’ – about someone holding onto a past relationship wishing they could fix it for the better, and ‘Northsiders’ which reminisces of fun teenage years between friends. The song’s so pensive and melancholic that the death of one friend suddenly hits you out of nowhere – what’s more Hutson gives no moral to the tale, just kind of shrugs it off with the line “It’s crazy how things shake out sometimes but maybe that’s enough magic for me…”
Hutson‘s style of singing, almost emotionless has a unique way of drawing you deep into his words and thoughts.
Beginners, shares painful confessions and private jokes, imagined conversations and elaborate daydreams but ultimately speaks an illuminating truth about regret and forgiveness and the endless confusion in growing up.
Speaking of the album, available to pre-order now via Bandcamp, Hutson says; “I went with Beginners as the title because that’s where I feel like I am in my life—like I’m still just learning and trying to figure out how to navigate the world.”
