International charity War Child UK have announced via Music Week the launch of their own record label ‘War Child Records’ in partnership with Virgin Music.
Founded in 1993 by film-makers David Wilson and Bill Leeson, War Child UK’s mission is to Protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in war.
In 1995 they began working with musicians like Sir Paul McCartney, Neneh Cherry, Paul Weller, Oasis, Massive Attack and more. The artists recorded an album entitled ‘HELP’ which raised over a million pounds overnight.
In 2009 the charity began staging Live shows centered around the Brit Awards – big names in music perform to intimate crowds, artists like Ed Sheeran, Take That, Jess Glynn, AJ Tracey and following in her mother’s footsteps Mabel. The shows to date have raised over 5 million to help transform the lives of children in conflict.
Now War Child Records, an independent label will add to the efforts of raising vital funds with UMG’s Virgin Music Label & Artist Services, who will assist with label services and distribution.
